Debbie Gordon Featured in Nashville Business Journal “The Boss” Column

Cloud Range Founder and CEO Debbie Gordon is not a stranger to entrepreneurship, as she discussed in a feature interview with Adam Sichko at the Nashville Business Journal.

Her earliest ventures may have included selling necklaces at Grateful Dead concerts and outsourcing her paper route, but she now leads Cloud Range, the only full-service, live-fire simulation training platform to prepare security teams to protect against cyber attacks.

After graduating from Vanderbilt University with a degree in Human and Organizational Development, Debbie started her post-graduate career working at a marketing company in the technical education space. “I think I was employee No. 4. I saw how a small company functioned and, more importantly, how the entrepreneur who owned it functioned,” she said. Debbie worked there for a few years before, “I realized I never wanted to have a boss ever again.”

The biggest lesson she’s learned? “Just do it. That’s the key thing: Everyone has the ability to just figure things out. You have to just blaze forward.”

When she’s not working, she can be found playing pickleball, but business is her hobby.

“Building businesses is a lot of my existence. It’s where I find joy. It’s where I learn. I am gratified by giving people jobs, helping their families. I mentor aspiring founders and existing founders. I do a lot of speaking to entrepreneur groups. My job on this Earth is to inspire people and make them better.”

Will Debbie slow down anytime soon? Her answer:

“Retirement is for people who want to die. It’s not really a word in my vocabulary. People should be able to enjoy what they do. If you’re enjoying it, you shouldn’t want it to end. And golf is boring anyway.”
