Range Engineer

About the Role

The Range Engineer is responsible for the design, operation, and maintenance of Cloud Range's cyber range infrastructure.  The Range Engineer assists in the design and feature development of ranges and also provides technical support to internal teams and customers, ensuring high availability and performance of our cyber range environments.

This role is critical to our mission, ensuring that security teams have the most effective training environments possible. Required Qualifications & Experience

  • 5+ years of experience administering VMware environments, including design, maintenance, and troubleshooting.

  • Strong scripting skills in PowerShell, Bash, and Python for automation and system management.

  • Experience with Windows and Linux OS configuration, administration, and troubleshooting.

  • Networking expertise, including design, administration, and troubleshooting.

  • Knowledge of firewall administration and security best practices.

  • Experience with cloud platform administration (e.g., Google Cloud, AWS) for managing virtual machines, security policies, and network configurations.

  • AWS Solutions Architect, AWS DevOps Engineer, GCP Cloud DevOps Engineer, Microsoft DevOps Engineer Expert certifications a plus, but not required.

Required Technical Skills

  • Virtualization: VMware administration, including vSphere and NSX.

  • Cloud Administration: Google Cloud and AWS platform management, including virtual machines, networking, and security policies.

  • Networking: Network troubleshooting, firewall management, and routing/switching concepts.

  • Security & Automation Tools: Experience with tools such as SaltStack, Veyon, and SIEM platforms.

  • Scripting & Automation: PowerShell, Bash, Python for automation and operational efficiency.

  • Documentation & Collaboration: Strong writing skills for documenting procedures and troubleshooting steps.

Required Soft Skills

  • Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to troubleshoot complex infrastructure issues.

  • Effective verbal and written communication skills to collaborate with internal teams and support customers.

  • Attention to detail and a proactive approach to identifying and resolving potential issues.
